How the list is made.

The Frame 25 is selected by the editors of Editorial. The methodology is published so readers can judge the list, argue with it, and hold us to it.

Eligibility

A photograph is eligible if it was published or exhibited in the calendar year: in a magazine editorial, a campaign, a book, or an exhibition. One frame, not a series; the unit is the single image.

Criteria

• Intent. The frame was a decision, not an accident.
• Craft. Light, edit, print, sequence: the working qualities we can describe.
• Cultural weight. What the image did to how we see, in fashion and beyond.
• Staying power. The frame that is still in the mind months later.

Process

Contributors nominate frames through the year with a written case for each. The editors deliberate, the Photography Director holds the edit, and the final twenty-five are ordered by argument, not by vote count. Each entry publishes with its reasoning and its full credit line.

Cadence and corrections

The list publishes once a year, at year end. Errors in credits or facts are corrected visibly with a dated note, per the corrections policy. The methodology itself is reviewed each year and any change is noted here.
